As with every year, November/December is a pretty busy time for Live Events at HA. With Christmas parties and work do’s, and awards ceremonies galore, we love the variety of events and their themes which we provide entertainment for. Last year, we had the honour of providing 6 ballerina’s for NZ’s historic masters of jewellery & watches – Partridge Jewellers.
The event, held at awe-inspiring St-Matthews-In-The-City, celebrated 20 years of their Queen street store, and included decor & high class hospitality (the flower wall & lighting were particular stand-outs for us!). We wanted to provide a catwalk-meets-chic-ballerina style entertainment, and so went with a Parisian inspired theme with ballerinas dancing en-pointe. Inspired by Madonna’s infamous Vogue music video, but slowed down to really allow time for the audience to take in the sparkling sensations on the dancers hands, wrists, necks and ears. We wanted to ensure the dancers were also dressed to the nines, so via Partridges we collaborated with New Zealand designer Adrienne Winkelmann, who provided garments for the showing.
It was incredible – the dancers look fantastic, but our choreographer – Rebekkah Schoonbeek-Berridge – had the fun of dealing with logistics around how the dancers would more effectively move – both because we needed to be very careful of the garments they were wearing, but also to ensure the jewellery was the main point of focus. Rebekkah did an incredible job with her choreography and finding moments to accentuate the sparkle of the jewellery (especially considering the dancers couldn’t actually wear it until the event!), and the dancers had the professionalism and skill-set to be able to adapt any movements which didn’t work for the garments (again, dancers weren’t able to wear the garments until the final event – they did get them fitted though!). We also had our multi-talented Nat Hugill on the job, this time as a Makeup Artist & Stage Manager – she was incredible!
The final event was fantastic. Everything ran smoothly, Dawson’s, Partridges and all companies involved brought the space to life and created a high-calibre evening for all attendees. Our dancers and Rebekkah’s choreography did us proud, and people were enthralled at the ingenuity and classiness Human brought to the event.
